Cat Urine Home Remedies

"Cat urine home remedies use a combination of ingredients you can find in your home. Cat's are sensitive to smell so thorough cleaning is important. Consider a commercial enzyme based product if the stain or odor is old or if your cat continues to urinate in the same spot."

Cat urine removers, either home made or commercial, are a good way to remove fresh stains and odors. There are several remedies to choose from.

If cleaning cat urine carpet and you select a remedy that uses peroxide, be sure to test it in a small area to make sure that it doesn't discolor the fabric. If the urine penetrated the padding under the cat urine carpet, then you will probably have to remove that section of padding and replace it.

Cats use odor and the urine mark as a sign that they can urinate their again. To prevent this from happening the area doesn't just have to be clean to the human sense of smell, but to the more sensitive cat sense of smell. Because of this if you don't clean the stain right after it happens we would suggest a product that contains enzymes such as Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover which was selected by Good Housekeeping as the most effective pet stain and odor remover when compared to other tested brands.

If you are trying to just remove cat urine odor from fabric another simple commercial solution would be Febreze Extra Strength.

Other people have found that peroxide by itself works on urine stains. Simply pour a small amount on the stain, then rinse with warm water and soak up the water with clean towels and allow the area to dry. Be warned, however, that peroxide may discolor some materials. It’s recommended that you test this one on a small, out-of-the-way area first.

These cat urine home remedies will work best on fresh urine stains. If you have old urine stains, you can still try them, but you may need to purchase an enzyme cleanser.
