Itchy Cat? Crop fur
by: JackofKitemanTV

I don't see any link for the photos that you mentioned, unfortunately.
I did have a cat with the condition that you describe that I took to four different Vet.'s and there was no solution from them (this was 15 years ago). I tried everything including baths and some Med.'s. No help. So, I just buzzed my cat's fur off right down to really close to the skin using a electric hair cutter. I'm not sure that I would say that this entirely solved the problem, but it did make the condition very tolerable for my cat. Before I buzzed off her fur, my cat was just in terrible shape to the point that I wondered if she would die.

UPDATE on kitty with skin condition
by: katieb

So I thought I would give an update on the Horrible Mystery Skin Condition that almost had us putting this cat to sleep! It turns out that her best friend doggie in the house had a cancerous tumor----and as far as we can figure she might have sensed it and was stressed about it. He got sick December 22, 2010 and died in February 2011. Her skin was SO bad and then she started plucking her fur out after he died to the point she was practically bald. She waited outside for DAYS in subzero temperatures for her best friend to come home, which he never did. She continued to pluck and scratch no matter what the vet gave her, no matter what food I changed her to, no matter what I put on her skin. In July, I went to a different vet and said if there is nothing we can do, she is going to have to be put down because this is awful for her and for us. One last Depo Medrol shot is what we decided, since $300+ for testing and then allergy shots was out of our budget. The timing of this shot coincided with my husband going out of town for a week, during which time this cat would not come back in the house!!! She spent night and day mourning now for her 'dad' in the lilies. The day he got back, she went nuts with happiness, purring, meowing and would not let him out of her sight. She has not had ONE single skin eruption since and has stopped plucking---and almost all of her fur has grown back thick and lush except for a small patch in her tail area. The best we can figure is that mental stress really caused her physical symptoms because she is such a sensitive kitty.
