Reader Question: Are These Tumor Symptoms In My Cat?

My ten year old female feline displays excessive licking of her stomach, and she is tender to the touch on her left side. Also, her back hair toward the tail is distended. Could this all be symptoms of a tumor?

Veterinarian Answers Reader Question Regarding Tumor Symptoms in Cats

Hello,

Yes, a tumor is a possible cause for the symptoms you describe, but so are many other conditions including infection, parasites, immune diseases, trauma, and even psychological disorders. Your veterinarian can probably begin to narrow down the list based solely on a physical exam, but diagnostic testing may be necessary to reach a definitive diagnosis and determine what type of treatment can provide your cat with relief.
