Cost of Cat Urinary Blockage Treatment

Reader Question: Is this a cat urinary emergency?

My cat was going in and out of the litter box without peeing. I could not touch him and he was acting very moody.

Took my cat to the veterinarians office and in 15 minutes they said he has a urinary blockage and they will keep him for five days.

They also charged me $3,203.00 before I could leave the office.

Is this the usual cost of this problem?

Veterinarian Common on the Cost of Cat Urinary Care

Hi Jennifer,

The charges associated with a urinary blockage depend on the severity of the cat’s condition. If your veterinarian was estimating that it would take five days to get your cat stable enough to go home, I suspect that your cat was in pretty rough shape. $3,203 is certainly a lot of money, but when you consider all that is being done to save your cat’s life it is not unreasonable.

Just think of what a similar hospital stay would cost for a person!
