Reader Question on Eye Endema Followed by Suggestion From Our Vet

My cat has very severe edema with blood vessels in the cornea. Eye ophthalmologist gives anti-inflammatory drops but he has a bad reaction and cannot open eye. When he get nothing the eye opens but the inflammation gets worse. Any ideas on a medication that may work?

Suggestion From Our Veterinarian on Eye Endema

Hello,

I’m afraid I can’t make a recommendation as to which medications might be best for your cat Veru without knowing exactly what the cause of his keratitis is (viral, bacterial, irritant, autoimmune, etc.). Your best option is to call the veterinarian who prescribed the anti-inflammatory drops, describe what you are seeing, and ask for his or her opinion regarding what to do next. Some cats are extremely sensitive to certain types of medications, so the type of reaction you describe is not all that unusual.

Best of luck,
Jennifer Coates, DVM
