Cat Urinary Blockage

Reader Question: Cat Urinary Problem or Blockage

Hi there,

My male brown tabby cat is 3.5 years old. He has been acting normal all day today (eating, drinking, and playing as usual). But today in the early afternoon, I noticed that he just sat in his litterbox, and looked at my mom. He then just left. He didn't go to the bathroom. He did this the 2nd time a few hours later, and since then, he hasn't gone. I'm really worried that there may be a blockage or UTI. I truly and deeply hope this is not the case. Please help, and I would like to know ASAP.

Thank you so much.

Veterinarian Suggestion Cat Urinary Problems

Hi Lisa,

The symptoms you describe could certainly be associated with a urinary blockage, which is a true medical emergency. While I can’t tell you exactly what is going without examining your cat, the chance that he is blocked means that you have to take him to the veterinarian immediately for diagnosis. If he is blocked, quick action on your part can mean the difference between life and death.

Best of luck,

Jennifer Coates, DVM
